And think of you
Turning in circles confusion–
Is nothing new
Flashback to warm nights–
Almost left behind
A suitcase of memories
Time after–
Sometimes you picture me–
I’m walking too far ahead
You’re calling to me I can’t hear
What you have said–
And you say–go slow–
I’ve fallen behind–
The second hand unwinds
If you’re lost you can look–and you will find me
Time after time
If you fall I will catch you–I’ll be waiting
Time after time
After your picture fades and darkness has
Turned to gray
Watching through windows–I’m wondering
If you’re okay
And you say–go slow–
I’ve fallen behind
The drum beats out of time–
If you’re lost you can look–and you will find me
Time after time
If you fall I will catch you–I’ll be waiting
Time after time
I Wandered By A Brookside
I wandered by a brookside
I wandered by a mill
I could not hear the water
The murmuring it was still
Not a sound of any grasshopper
Nor the chirp of any bird
But the beating of my own heart
Was the only sound I heard
The beating of my own heart
Was the only sound I heard
Then silent tears fast flowing
When someone stood beside
A hand upon my shoulder
I knew the touch was kind
He drew me near and nearer
We neither spoke one word
But the beating of our own two hearts
Was the only sound I heard
The beating of our own two hearts
Was the only sound I heard
Lyrics : Richard Monckton Milnes/Barbara Berry
A true gem of a song adapted from an old poem by Richard Milnes. This one has the signature style of Eva’s soothing vocals sung to a minimum piano/guitar arrangement.
Anniversary Song
Today has been a special day
An anniversary a request
That you play your piano
As the evening sun slowly sets
I never thought I’d get this old dear
Never had a reason to live so long
And the Lord’s been like my shadow
Even when I was wrong
No I never thought it would turn out this way
A birthday with apologies (oh oh oh)
For all the tears and regrets (oh oh oh)
And I’ve always saved your poetry (oh oh oh)
For these years when you forget (oh oh oh)
I never thought I’d get this old dear
Never had a reason to live so long
And the Lord’s been like my shadow
Even when I was wrong
No I never thought it would turn out this way
So sing with me softly (oh oh oh)
As the day turns to night (oh oh oh)
And later I’ll dream (oh oh oh)
Of paradise with you (oh oh oh)
I love you and good night
Lyrics : Steven M. Digman
Last year, ‘Somewhere’ was the 11th Eva Cassidy album released. In her lifetime, only 2 albums -‘The Other Side’ (with Chuck Brown) & ‘Live at the Blue’s Alley’ were released. ‘Somewhere’ consists of forgotten practice tapes found in the basement of her band’s guitarist. Will post some songs from this album someday.
